Objectives: To be able to prove Six Degrees of Separation Theory and analyze it based from quantifiable data gathered from the experiment.
Target Respondents: Students
Qualifications of Respondents:
1. Must be a DLSU-CCS student.
2. Must be enrolled in BS-INSYS.
3. Must be from the batch 108.
4. Must be from S13, S14, S15, or S22.
Methodology:
1. Block pictures from S13, S14, S15, S22 using Facebook were posted.
2. Respondents were asked to comment their relationships with the person/s in any block pictures.
3. Connections were mapped in a paper.
4. Each student that is marked as subject for the experiment were tracked with the number of degree connections it can reach.
5. Trials were done to track realization of the Six Degrees of Separation Theory.
Facts about the experiment:
1. There are a total of 20 comments being posted.
2. The experiment lasted for 5 days.
3. There are a total of 44 students marked as subjects for the experiment.
4. There are a total of 171 students in all four (4) block pictures.
5. An average of at least 4 persons has connection with respondents.
6. An average of 3 degrees was reached by most trials for realizing the theory.
7. There are 44 trials made to prove the theory.
8. Only 1 trial was successful on proving the Six Degrees of Separation theory.
Result:
Six Degrees of Separation Theory = TRUE
Probability for Success: 1/44 or 0.0227 = 2.3%
Probability for Failure: 43/44 or 0.9772 = 97.7%
Evaluation & Conclusion:
In our experiment, the Six Degrees of Separation Theory was proven right. However, the result of this experiment shows that there is only a low chance of probability for a degree of separation can reach as high as 6 degrees. Separation degree reaches mostly up to 3 degrees and this holds a stronger probability than of the 6 degrees. Therefore, the success chance of proving the Six Degrees of Separation theory was low. For some group of people, it might not be true/applicable at all.
